Overview
Overview
Our client was commissioned to provide suitable space to accommodate a staff shop and meeting rooms for their client, Walkers Snack Foods, as part of the facilities development and improvement. However, the footprint available was limited, this created the need for the meeting rooms to be stacked, to facilitate sufficient space for the staff shop at ground level. Access to the upper level of the stacked units was provided by an external steel staircase.
Key Issues
Key Issues
The staff shop needed to meet building regulations and in particular the most recent regulation change (Part L).
The project was also under both time and safety pressures with the buildings installed in an area where other building activity was being completed. This resulted in site access restrictions with permits required, to ensure safety. These challenges along with the added safety issues posed by a food production facility were all managed with regular communication and detailed organisation by GCS and Summers Inman.
What GCS Did
What GCS Did
This project was a little out of the ordinary in terms of specification compared with the majority of modular units, and it became apparent that great care was required in understanding the precise needs of the Contactor and their client. To gain clarity on customer requirements we met with Ben Lawton from Summers Inman to ensure that we understood and quoted exactly what was needed, particularly with regard to the building regulations and the requirements on the specification in the units. We were also able to supply drawings and loadings detail for Summers Inman to enable them to install adequate foundations for the buildings to sit on.
Summary
Summary
The employees now have a bright new retail facility, attractive from the inside and out along with impressive meeting rooms to greet potential clients.
