24ft x 10ft Plastisol Jackleg Building – Workspace & Training Room

Client Details

The enthusiasm that Jess & Steve have for their business comes through loud and clear in their mission statement –
“We’re passionate about farming in a small, regenerative way. By supporting Grazers, you are supporting a small food system with animal welfare at its heart.”
Jess Lacey
Their mission is to encourage people to support small sustainable British farming and continue to farm in the same sustainable, regenerative way that they and their ancestors have now been doing for generations
Both Steve and Jess come from fourth-generation farming families. Along with their three children, they continue in their family’s footsteps rearing cattle, sheep, and pigs in the same beautiful South Leicestershire village where Jess’ family have been farming since the 1930’s.
Steve and Jess believe strongly in traditional, slow-reared, grass-fed farming methods, with every animal being traceable. They can tell you everything about the short supply chain from pasture to plate, and work only with British breeds, believing in the protection of our agricultural heritage.

Overview

Overview

The success of Grazers had created a need for more space to house the butchery room to process the growing demand for the product sold at their Leicestershire Farm Shop. The unit additionally allows the business to run butchery courses from the purpose-built on-site butchery room teaching all the steps from pasture to plate in accommodation absolutely fit for purpose.

Key Issues

Key Issues

The challenges they faced were – the building needed 3-Phase electricity to cope with the power demand, the access was extremely tight for a HIAB (Lorry with a mounted crane) given the countryside location, off a narrow country lane and finally Jess & Steve were keen that the building should be a good fit aesthetically for the site and should reflect the nature of their business and not be just an ugly box that is the normal run-of-the Mill installation across most of the Industry. A problem they didn’t know they had was the access door to the building would give them problems when sited!

What GCS Did

What GCS Did

The original plans had assumed single phase electricity was suitable for the needs of the business, however when it became clear that this wasn’t the case and 3-phase critical, GCS were able to replace the single phase and replace with the 3-phase ensuring electrics were all fit for purpose on delivery. The rural nature of the business and the corporate feel of the business dictated that a shade of green was best suited to the environment and business. In the event 2 shades of green were used for the plastisol exterior creating a building that fits into its surroundings perfectly with the beautiful rural setting. The issue over access was resolved by a site visit from GCS at which we were able to identify a suitable transport provider that had a suitable HIAB vehicle that, with a professional driver, was able to negotiate the very tight access to the farm. The unseen problem was that the access door to the building was opening the “wrong way” and giving access issues, a call to GCS resulted in a prompt visit to re-hang the door on the opposite side and all was well.

Summary

Summary

The farm now has a brand-new purpose-built building for use as their butchery and training room, it fits perfectly in the surroundings and the extra space will undoubtedly contribute positively to the ongoing growth and development of this successful business.

Steve & Jess were kind enough to leave some great comments on the YELL site:
‘Without a doubt 5 star’
