Client Details
J Hayward & Sons are a container storage and transportation company who have numerous sites across the UK. They were founded in 1919 by Harry Hayward, they have been a familiar name in the haulage industry for over 100 years and are now a 3rd generation family business. With a reputation as “The People’s Haulier”, it goes without saying that people are at the centre of everything they do. They have a reputation for always being ready to listen to customers and tailor their services to suit client needs and consistently investing into their talent pool, to help their staff and workforce develop and grow.
Time was against us on this one for sure, as the client needed a new modular office setup within a matter of weeks to enable them to finish the new site. There was no margin for error as the building was part of a much larger project. We were given just eight weeks from the initial enquiry for the buildings to be constructed, transported, sited and fitted out. This included design of the building, along with a site visit to ensure that there were no obstacles to the siting of the units and full access for transport was available.
Timescale, security and site access were the big challenges. Firstly, the timescale was incredibly tight, particularly given the demand on the modular sector during the period in question. However, the eight-week turnaround was non-negotiable as the business needed the building to operate the new business from and clearly needed siting in time for the grand opening. The building was also in a vulnerable location and needed to be secure which dictated a need for our sturdy anti-vandal units. They are steel framed units with flat sheet or corrugated steel walls and roof, floor and all doors constructed from steel with 10 locking points for ultimate protection and lockable steel shutters to all windows and doors.
This ensures the building is safe and secure. Finally, modular building and off-site construction was the only option given that the site was being cleared to accommodate the new business, ruling out the possibility of a traditional build.
GCS were able to pull out all the stops and through efficient planning and production management were able to meet the tight deadlines and deliver a 4-bay building absolutely fit for purpose on time and on budget. The security afforded by the anti-vandal units is enough of a deterrent to the potential for vandalism or theft and along with CCTV enabled the Company to make a £20K annual saving on overnight security monitoring. All in all, an interesting project, delivered on time, and on budget.
J. Hayward & Sons now have a brand-new building with accommodation perfect for their requirements and with all the internal facilities they need and an external security comfort blanket to provide peace of and a good night’s sleep in the knowledge that the robust security features will provide all the protection needed. On to the next site now and a recommendation from an adjacent business that we are now building a similar building for.
