Client Details

New Rush Hall School (NRHS) is a specialist school for pupils aged 5 to 16 years who have social, emotional and/or mental health difficulties (SEMH) as their primary area of need.

NRHS is located within the London Borough of Redbridge, but welcomes pupils that attend from a range of neighbouring boroughs including, Barking & Dagenham, Essex, Enfield, Havering, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest.

The school has 80 pupils (28 Primary & 52 Secondary) who are supported by a team of over 65 staff, including Senior Leaders, Pastoral Leads, Curriculum Co-ordinator, Therapists, Mentors, Specialist Teachers, Instructors and Support Assistants.

The staff team takes pride in providing a high-quality, personalised, inclusive and inspiring education to all pupils. Running parallel to their academic offer is a programme of wrap-around pastoral care which ensures their pupils’ emotional, social, and mental health needs are fully met.

Overview

Overview

Having previously sourced 2 buildings from GCS Modular we were an obvious choice for their requirement for a gymnasium, which required space for all the usual gym equipment including exercise machines and weights along with space to house a boxing ring. The building was also unconventional in that the elevated floor of the boxing ring meant the ceiling height of the building needed to be 3M higher than a typical building. We also had to accommodate 2 toilets and a shower facility to service the gym.

The recording studio also had an unusual specification with the requirement for a sound deadened room for the recording studio and separate voice recording booth.

Key Issues

Key Issues

The school faced a number of challenges with the project, starting with a tight budget for a lot of building!  However, GCS worked with the school to satisfy every requirement and deliver a building absolutely fit for purpose. There were also the obvious challenges posed by construction work in a school environment which involved working around pupil break times and removing any potential hazard. Our previous experience at the site informed the decision making over the restricted access and building location, which we entrusted to our trusted logistics partners who managed the process in their normal professional, risk-free fashion. Finally, the provision of services to the new building were all handled by GCS so New Rush Hall School didn’t have too.

What GCS Did

What GCS Did

The building was sited away from the main school and needed transporting across a patch of grass which given the combined weight of the building and the crane was clearly not practical. We installed a temporary trackway system for the crane and lorries to pass across the track safely and to remove any potential for danger the modular building was installed at the weekend. To further enhance safety, the building construction site was then fenced off and all deliveries were scheduled during class times to minimise any pupil interaction. Pathways and lighting were then installed for permanent access for pupils and staff and all the required utilities – water, electrics, solar panels and drinking station were supplied.

Summary

Summary

NRHS now have a fantastic gymnasium and recording studio to use during and after school. The facility will not only help pupils and staff with general fitness but their mental health too.  The gym also houses a boxing ring which has been sponsored fully by GCS Cabins.
