Sustainability Policy

GCS have always been passionate about sustainability and recognising our environmental responsibilities. Here we outline our core standards that are applied to not only everything we do but also apply to all our suppliers and contractors across the board.

It has to be said, that actually modular building is inherently environmentally friendly by its very nature. Modular buildings are manufactured off-site and then assembled on-site which in itself dramatically reduces environmental impact but also is a construction method which offers several opportunities for the further implementation of sustainable practices. There is the added benefit that the difficulties experienced during inclement weather by traditional construction methods do not impact modular production as they built in a covered factory environment.

Here are some of the key GCS sustainability guidelines:

Resource Efficiency: Modular construction typically requires less material and generates less waste compared to traditional construction methods. Precise measurements and controlled manufacturing processes reduce material waste, and off-site fabrication allows for better resource management.

Supplier Responsibility: All our suppliers commit to meeting the high GCS standards and are monitored regularly to ensure compliance.

Local Suppliers:  We always seek local suppliers wherever possible to reduce our environmental impact.

Energy Efficiency: All GCS modular buildings are designed with energy efficiency in mind. Incorporating energy-efficient systems, such as LED lighting, high-efficiency HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems, and smart controls, which significantly reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions.

Renewable Energy:  We can also design and accommodate renewable energy systems, by harnessing clean energy sources.  Our buildings can reduce reliance on non-renewable energy and lower your carbon footprint. For example, in line with current building regulations all our modular buildings will have solar PV (Solar panels) fittedEnvironmental Policy

Sustainable Materials: Modular construction allows for the use of sustainable and eco-friendly materials. You can choose low-impact insulation, non-toxic finishes, and sustainable wood products certified by organizations like the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

Water Efficiency: Water-efficient fixtures, such as low-flow toilets are generally installed in modular buildings to reduce water consumption. Additionally, we can implement rainwater harvesting systems or water recycling which can further promote sustainable water management.

Internal Environmental Quality:  We can prioritize occupant health and well-being by incorporating features that enhance indoor air quality, such as efficient ventilation systems and low-emission building materials. The use of natural lighting and adequate daylighting strategies can also improve occupant comfort and reduce the need for artificial lighting. We ensure our research and design team work towards constantly improving our environmental credibility through intelligent design to ensure our units continue to exceed air permeability testing and improve thermal efficiency, lower running costs and reduced carbon emissions.

Remodel and Reuse: Our modular buildings are designed to be adaptable and easily reconfigured or expanded as needs change. This flexibility allows for longer building lifespan and reduces the need for new construction, thereby minimizing waste and conserving resources. Buildings can be moved and re-sited or extended to meet growing needs.

Recycling and Waste Management: Off-site manufacturing Modular construction enables a high degree of recycling and waste reduction practice. Better waste segregation and recycling, of excess materials can be reused or repurposed on future projects.

Transportation Efficiency: Off- site manufacturing has a far-reaching impact on transportation costs by dramatically reducing visits to site of multiple tradesmen often in heavy transport. All production is carried out under one roof with the only transportation need occurring on delivery.
